Hey there ZUMSTEIN,

I'd like to make some notes regarding the Brazilian term carijó.

It is an indigenous term, which is used to make references to the predominance of colors in chickens (galináceos) with undefined breed. There is no formal technical term to describe a species called carijó hen (galinha carijó) or carijó rooster (galo carijó).

These are the Brazilian native chicken breeds which are known until then:

Barbura do Cartolé
Canela preta
Caneluda do Catolé
Índio Gigante
Paraíso pedrês
Peloco

The physical characteristics used to distinguish chicken breeds are size, plumage color, type of crest, skin color, number of fingers, number of fringes, egg colors, and place of origin. They are also placed into four general categories: laying, meat-producing, ornamental and dual-purpose breeds.

Regarding the Plymouth rock chickens, they are an American breed of domestic chicken. It was first seen in Massachusetts in the nineteenth century, and for much of the early twentieth century was the most popular chicken breed in the United States. It is a dual-purpose breed, raised both for its meat and for its brown eggs. It is resistant to cold, easy to manage, and a good sitter. In Brazil, we called them as galináceos Plymouth rock.
