Other way to convey that would be:
"Your question is too broad and not specific to what you are looking for.",
"You are not being clear with your question/your question is not clear".
Your question sounds (very) confusing to me.
Vague questions - sometimes are synonymous with "too broad/unspecific"/ambiguous questions/questions lacking clarity/questions generic in kind (that would get generic answers back).
An example of usage (of the expression), in a sentence:
Specific questions are much harder to ask than generic questions. You have to understand your business very well.
But, as always, context is everything...no one-size-fits all approach here.
