This dissertation presents renewable energy alternatives and electric mobility as part of the solution to a new energy age, given the finite characteristics of fossil energy sources, its harmful contribution to climate changes, and the increasingly scarcity period which we are now facing.
The initial section is about the current energy scenario, and the changes that occured since the discoveries made during the first and second industrial revolution. It has an analysis of the evolution of the electric vehicle, its different architectures and systems for energy storage and infrastructure, as well as the battery charge methodologies. The following chapter presents the existing and developing small and large scale storage technologies. The most promising ones are explored and that may help the integration of renewable energy, and electric mobility into daily civilization.
In conclusion, a battery consisting of supercapacitors to replace a small electric vehicle's battery is designed and simulated. Alternative features were highlighted in this project, and the advantages and disadvantages of this type of energy storage have been proved .
