Significado de Bite Down

Olá! Eu estava querendo saber o significado de "bite down".
Eu sei da conotação relacionada à drogas que a expressão tem, mas ela é apenas um side effect de tomar uma certa pílula. Eu vi ela ser traduzida em alguns lugares como "morder, travar ou cerrar os dentes".
Então ela é apenas outro jeito de falar "bite" (Assim como fall e fall down, creio, só pra dar ênfase), ou seu uso é diferente? Se não, eu posso usá-la no lugar de "bite" em qualquer contexto?
