What does mean the word "de-emphasize"?
Sentence example: Theirs was a dead religion which stressed outward actions and de-emphasize what was going on inside the person.

The prefix "de- " would mean "redução/diminuição" as in de-escalation - diminuição da tensão/da crise, etc. Here "diminuição na ênfase" ou seja "enquanto despreza/ignora/deixa de ver o que está se passando dentro da pessoa".

...and minimize what was going inside the person.
...and underemphasize what was going inside the person.
...and lessen what was going inside the person.
...and downplay the significance of what was going inside the person.
