Significado de Phrasal verbs como "hold out e give off"

estou com duvida na compreensão de alguns phrasal verbs que estão em negrito , vcs poderiam me ajudar ?

por exemplo :

How long can a human hold out without food ?
What are the possible dangers of the pollution that factories give off?
I do not know how they get by on her wages .( Não entendi o uso do "her" tb )
It's time you got down to some revisions for you exams.
Sam's got very behind with his correspondence.
You really should put in for that job.
I had never set foot in his house.
I hope I'm not putting you out by asking you to put me in .
