Other-oriented / four-odd - Tradução em português
Hello,
No caso, "For the last four-odd hours I was forced to stand there, I reckognized myself as one of all those other-oriented, selfless, strong folks that I've been desperately trying to figure out(...)"

Sorry, I don't know how to translate.
"Four odd hours" means approximately 4 hours, four or more hours.
You can correct Google Translate if it made a bad translation that does not make sense:
cerca de quatro horas, mais do que quatro horas?
Other-oriented means a person who does not put his interests frst, but rather is focused on the needs, wishes, hopes and interests of the people in his life.

Hi there,
Mary, the translations make sense. Another option would be "aproximadamente quatro horas".
I just didn't know the suffix "odd" could mean "around/approximately". Any other examples?
I have no idea how to say this in Portuguese

For the last four-odd hours I was forced to stand there, I reckognized myself as one of all those other-oriented, selfless, strong folks that I've been desperately trying to figure out.
Other-oriented:
Being other-oriented is not simple. Most of us are egocentric. We are mostly concerned with our own needs and necessities first, and then after do we consider the needs of others. But to be other-oriented doesn't necessarily mean dropping your personal needs. All you need is to be open about others concerns, and is the concept of other-oriented communication.
We don't have to abandon our concerns and needs to effectively communicate with others. By considering and listening to the needs and concerns of others, and at the same time maintaining our own personal needs, we can communicate effectively with others.
But how can you become more other-oriented? There are two suggested ways. First, "take into account another person's thoughts, values, background, and perspectives"[3] -- social decentring; and second, you should try and develop a feel for what the person you're communicating with is currently feeling -- empathy. These ways are explained next.
