Comecei a ler um livro em inglês para aperfeiçoar meu inglês e tive algumas dúvidas que o dicionário não pode me tirá-las, poderiam me ajudar?

São as frases:
"This is all far back, when Dean was not the way he is today."
"staying in a cold- water pad"
"You saw that in the way he stood bobbing"
"and so on in the way that he had in those early days."
