Para dizer fiquei sabendo em inglês, faça uso das seguintes opções:

I heard
I found out

Exemplos de uso:

• I heard she's pregnant. (Fiquei sabendo que ela está grávida.)
• I found out she's pregnant. (Fiquei sabendo que ela está grávida.)
• I found out they are going to get married. (Eu fiquei sabendo que eles vão se casar.)
• I heard John is sick. (Eu fiquei sabendo que John está doente.)
• I found out Paul is doing well in school. (Eu fiquei sabendo que Paul está indo bem na escola.)
• I heard Julia is a success abroad. (Eu fiquei sabendo que a Julia está fazendo sucesso no exterior.)
• I found out he was fired. (Eu fiquei sabendo que ele foi demitido.)

well..this is what I think
if we say find out it means we are/were looking for answers ourselves while if we say I got aware it means that we got the informations by chance like we say "fique sabendo"

I got aware that.. = fiquei sabendo que /fiquei ciente que

I got aware that the cops were killed by the mafia

I was told that..= me foi falado que..

ex: I was told that her father died

Also remember we can use "just" acabou de
e.g. I have just found out that . . .
(Acabei de ficar sabendo . . . (??????))

Moro há 11 anos no Texas.
Apesar de parecer não tanto correto, mas a forma mais usada pra isso é
"I found out that ..."
Essa expressão é usada no sentido de " Eu descobri que.."
Se forem ver "fiquei sabendo que.." e " Eu descobri que .." podem ser usadas para a mesma ideia.

O que você acham das expressões "rumor has it..." e "I've heard it through the grapevine" ?

Ex.: "Rumor has it Carol and Jim broke up"
"I've heard it through the grapevine Carol and Jim broke up"
(Dizem por aí/Fiquei sabendo que Carol e Jim terminaram o namoro)
