Sugestão.

Na base da equivalência, sugiro "Today my boss chided me for dropping a bucketful of bolts on his feet" (Hoje levei um puxão de orelha de meu chefe por deixar cair um balde de parafusos nos pés dele" ou uma variante mais colorida: "... my boss raked my sorry a** over the coals for losing a potential luxury car buyer" (... meu chefe literalmente me levantou pelas duas orelhas por eu ter perdido um comprador em potencial de carro de luxo).

Só aproximadamente, dizemos também

I got (heard) an earful from ... about (regarding) ... .

I was called on the carpet by ... about (regarding) ... .

No less violent, I guess, depending on whether you´re the doer or the doee... Regards

Um puxão de orelha: a slap on the wrist = a light punishment, a mild reprimand.

Ex.: Microsoft fought back and got only a slap on the wrist.
