Olá Pessoal,

Como dizer "já deu o que tinha que dar", "já era" em inglês: have had it

1. This cell phone has had it. (Este celular já deu o que tinha que dar, já era.)
2. Our washing machine has had it. (Nossa máquina de levar já deu o que tinha que dar.)

Bons estudos.

The cell phone is over does not make any sense to me. You can say the movie is over, but not a cell phone.

When something is over, it implies that it was active, moving, developing, or progressing.
A relationship can be over.
A movie runs and is moving, so it will eventually end.
A cel phon eis static and not developing. It's usefulness can be over, but the object itself cannot be over.

Hi there!

Mais alguns usos para have had it em: http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/have+had+it

Podemos utilizar a expressão have had it com o sentido de "Para mim já chega" como em:

I've had it!

Take care,

Did you know that I've had it is the short form of I've had it up to here?

The man is gesturing that he has had enough. His hand is showing that if one could measure the magnitude of a problem, there is no room for more. He is full.

Imagine a problem being poured into a person's body, and keep pouring it in until the level of the problem rises like the level of water when you pour it into a container. The problem rises to the ankles, then the knees, then the thighs, the the hips, then the waist, then the chest, then the shoulders. When it reaches his neck, he makes the gesture of cutting the problem off before the level rises to fill his head up. See how full he is with the problem, it has filled his body, and now he has had enough.

In relation to usefulness, sometimes we also say things like "this cell phone has had its day." A previously famous person may also be said to "have had his/her day." "Day" would refer to the period of time when the item was useful, or when the person was influential.

Colloquially, a dead or powerless item or person is "a goner."
