"Cast off" is similar to "zarpar" in Portuguese. It means "to release/loosen the lines/ropes of a boat/ship so that it may leave the wharf/pier/anchorage, etc" The lines/ropes refer to those tied to the wharf/pier, however, and are not lines/ropes attached to the anchor. So, "Cast off!" is something like "Vamos!" or "Vamos partir!"
In other contexts, "to cast off" may have the meaning of "to throw away, to not use again, to get rid off, etc."
I am not familiar with "Brace on!" I would understand it to mean, in your context, "Be prepared for something that will require your physical/mental strength. Be prepared for movement. Hold on tightly." A common way of saying this is "Brace yourself!"
