Parece-me equivaler a "Realize/Faça isso você mesmo. Mais uma forma idiomática de dizer "fazer isso por conta própria, por seus próprios esforços".

Ex.:

Now, if the splinter is too deep to be removed at home or you just can't pull this off on your own, go see a doctor.
(= ... ou se você não consegue fazer isso, q.d., remover a farpa por si próprio...)

With a little planning and effort, you can pull this off on your own.
(= ... você pode fazer isso por conta própria)

"Ser bem sucedido" é uma boa traduçáo em muitos contextos.

He tried to convince her to marry him, and he almost pulled it off. (and he was almsot successful)

She tried to plan the party without any help from her family, but she could not quite pull it off. (...she was not very successful, ...she failed, etc.)
